The Lions faced Franklin College in their last home match of the year. The Lions started the day by celebrating five seniors, Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda), Sydney Wilzbach (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest), Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg), Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison), and Hannah Meckstroth (North Bend, OH / Taylor). The Lions opened up the match in a close battle but weren't able to come out with the first set. After a change in momentum, the Lions would go on to dominate in the next three sets to take the victory in their last match of the season, 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Mount started the first set off slow, finding themselves at a 4-0 deficit early. The Lions quickly countered the Grizzles run and go on a five point run of their own to take the lead. Both teams battle point for point until the final points. Franklin surged at the end to take the first set 25-21. The Grizzlies continued to challenge the Lions early in the second set but a six point service gave the Lions some room to breathe. The Lions wouldn't look back and finished strong to defeat Franklin 25-13. The Lions continued their momentum into the third set to take an early lead over Franklin. The Mount capitalized on the Grizzles errors to keep a slight lead. The Lions finished off Franklin on an ace from Plemmons, with a final score of 25-16. The Grizzles stayed aggressive in the final set to try and force a fifth set. After back and forth points the Lions were able to earn a lead on a four point service run from Looney. The Lions serves kept Franklin on their heels while they continued to push for victory. The Mount found themselves up 24-18 with game point and Franklin was able to go on a six point run to threaten a sudden death. The Lions didn't give up hope and finished the match on a kill from Plemmons gave the Lions the 25-23 victory.
Brunner led the charge on offense for the Lions with 17 kills and 13 kills. Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) was outstanding in the back row, earning 21 digs in the Lions victory.
