The Mount Women's Volleyball Team Picked to Finish 7th in HCAC

The Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball program has been predicted to finish 7th in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference by coaches in a pre-season poll. The Lions finished the season 13-14, finishing in 6th place in the HCAC with a 3-6 record. The Lions qualified for the conference tournament but were knocked out in the first round after a 3-1 loss to Transylvania.

Second year head coach Abby Smith is looking forward to the upcoming season. She says, "MSJ Volleyball is ready to reunite and get to work. The team has worked hard and improved all spring season and continued that into the summer. We have a very special senior class that are driven to make this season special. As a coach it is the perfect storm, we have the talent, motivation and mindset to accomplish our goals. We have a tough non-conference schedule to get us ready for the HCAC and the team is ready to take on the challenge."

The Lions return six starters from the previous season, Sydney Wilzbach (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest), Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg), Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda), Hannah Meckstroth (North Bend, OH / Taylor), Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County), and Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison). Brunner, Plemmons, and Looney were all recognized for being HCAC Honorable Mentions and look to continue their success in the upcoming season. The Lions will look to their seniors as they kick off the season against Cincinnati Christian here at the Mount on Friday, August 31st. Continue to check for more updates on the Lions season!
