CINCINNATI, Ohio—The Lions were bested by the Eagles of Midway University 6-3 in many close matches on October 2nd.
The started with doubles, and the Lions won 1-3 matches. Katie Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio / Taylor) and Allison Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Seton) won the lone doubles match with a huge 8-1 victory. Two other fierce Lions, Jessica Berger (Milan, Indiana / Milan) and Kelsey Knodell (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes), were close to a victory that slipped through their fingers by a score of 9-8.
In the singles matchups the mount won 2 out of the 6 matches of the day. Hanna Broermann (Okeana, Ohio / Badin) won the first singles match of the day with a first set score of 6-3 and a second set score of 6-0. The final victory of the day came from Fellinger in the 5th match. This match went into three sets with the scores being as followed 4-6, 6-2 and 4-10 with Katie winning the first and third set. There were two other single matches played by Berger and Tessa Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) that were hard fought but just could not secure the victory for the Mount. Berger lost in two sets but they were not easy victories for Earlham and Mayes took her match to three sets and kept it interesting until she was bested in the third set.
