DANVILLE, Ky. - The Mount St. Joseph University women's lacrosse team travelled to Centre College to take on the Colonels in a non-conference matchup. The Lions drop road game 20-2 after coming off their big win against conference opponent the day before.
The Lions would look to get a victory on the road as they began the game. Unfortunately, the Colonels had a different idea as they took a four goal lead within the first three minutes of the game. Freshman Erin Backs (Springfield Township,Ohio/Roger Bacon) would go in unassisted and snag her first collegiate goal. Centre College would go on a run of nine goals before the first half time expired. The Mount would find themselves trailing the Colonels 13-1.
As the second half began the Colonels kept their previous streak going as they scored another three goals before The Lions could stop the run. Junior Brianna Brannon (Cincinnati,Ohio/Seton) would get The Mount's second and final goal of the game off of an assist from Megan Dancer (Springboro,Ohio/Springboro). Before the game clock settled at 00:00 Centre College was able to obtain four more goals bringing the final score to 20-2. After this game The Lions overall record is now 3-7 and their conference record remains 2-1.
Sophomore goalie Sydney Vinel (Cleves,Ohio/Seton) accumulated 14 saves throughout the entire game. She is now ranked fourth in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference in save percentage.
