The Lions faced Waynesburg in an ORLC matchup on Schueler Field. They looked to get their first win of the season and started the game strong. Mount St. Joseph outscored Waynesburg 13-3 going into halftime. The Lions looked to keep this style of play in the second half. With great hustle and team play, the Lions were able to defeat the Yellow Jackets 17-5.
How it Happened:
Mount St. Joseph started the game off looking good. They were able to go on a 5-1 scoring run to jump into the lead over the Yellow Jackets. Waynesburg tried to match the goals the Lions had scored to get back in the game, but the Lions were showing a dominant presence on the defensive end making it hard for them to score. Along with great defensive play, the offense for the Lions didn't slow down. The Lions put together a string of goals from multiple players to take the lead going into halftime 13-3.
The Lions continued to show their dominance in the second half. They held the Yellow Jackets to 2 goals for the rest of the game, and finished the game with a final score of 17-5 to give the Lions their first win of the season.
The team had many players step up to take control of this game. There were seven different girls that were able to record a goal over the course of the game. Madie Long (Columbus, OH/ Hilliard Davidson) was able to lead the Lions in scoring with an impressive 6 goals on 13 shots. Anna Thorner (Cincinnati, OH/ Mercy) was the second highest scorer for the Lions as she was able to score 3 goals on 8 shots.
The Lions will compete against Franklin next Wednesday 4/5 on Schueler Field at 7:00 pm.
