The Lions Defeat Earlham for another Conference Win

Location: Harrington Center (Cincinnati, OH)

The Basics:

Mount St. Joseph took on another conference competitor in Earlham College. The game started off as a low-scoring contest. Both teams played great defense to limit their opponents scoring opportunities. The Lions jumped in front in the first quarter and were able to maintain the lead going into halftime with a score of 28-15. The Mount continued to dominate in the second half and came out with the victory over Earlham with a final score of 63-48.

How it Happened:

The game started as a tough contest between both teams. It was a defensive battle for most of the first quarter as both teams struggled to score.The Lions were able to take an early lead after a three pointer by Reba Sanders (Dayton, KY/ Dayton). The Mount would lead 13 to 7 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Lions continued to extend their lead. Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mother of Mercy) caught fire, scoring 11 points in the quarter. She went 3-5 from three-point range to push the Lions ahead 28-15 going into halftime. In the second half, the Lions looked to keep the same momentum. Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH/ Little Miami) was able to make an impact as she scored all of her 16 points in the second half. The Lions played great defense, pressuring the ball on every possession. They would go into the final quarter with the lead over Earlham 43-28. The Mount was able to maintain their lead and defeat the Quakers with a final score of 63-48.


Lainee Studer was able to have an all-around amazing game against Earlham. She finished the night with 16 points, 3 steals, 8 rebounds, and 5 assists. She was a huge reason for the Lions dominance and was a key part in the win. Maddie Haberthy also had an outstanding performance. She led the team in scoring with 17 points going 3-7 from three point range. She was also able to finish with 4 rebounds and 1 assist.

The Lions (6-3, 3-1) will travel to Steubenville, OH, to compete against Franciscan University (0-7, 0-5) on Monday, 12/18. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM.
