SHELBYVILLE, Ind. - Mount St. Joseph University and the MSJ Cross Country teams were proud to play host to the nine other schools in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference, for the HCAC Championship meet. The meet took place in Shelbyville, Indiana at the Blue River Cross Country Venue, a course which The Mount has run their home events at for years.
It was an outstanding day of action at Blue River, despite a cold overcast day. First up was the women's 6k race, and this would be a bright spot for the Lions on the day. Senior Maria Waters (Cincinnati, Ohio/Mercy) led the way for the Lions, finishing 12th. Her time of 24:14.6 earned her an All-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference award. The Lions next best finisher in the race was Kaitlyn Sharp (Amelia, Ohio/Felicity-Franklin) who finished in 46th place. As a team the Lions finished in 8th place overall in the meet.
On the men's side the race would start at 1:00 PM and would be an 8k endeavor. Mathew Bruner (Dillsboro, Ind./South Dearborn) and Trevor Levi (Rising Sun, Ind./Rising Sun) led the way for the Lions. As a team they would finish in 9th place in the meet.
