Joe Sparhawk returns for his 15th season as the men’s golf coach at the Mount in 2018-2019. Sparhawk directed the squad to a program-best second place standing at the HCAC Championships for the fourth time in five years in 2014. In 2009, 2010, and 2013, the Mount placed third at the HCAC Championships.
Under Sparhawk’s tutelage, the Mount has won multiple tournaments that include the 2014 Anderson University Invitational, 2014 Dick Park Invitational, 2013 Transylvania Invite, defeating four top 25 teams including pre-season #1 Transylvania University, 2013 Dick Park Invitational hosted by Franklin College, defeating #6 Milliken University, 2011 MSJ Invite, out-distancing runner-up Franklin College by 31 strokes, the 2011 Defiance Invite, defeating NCAA Division II Tiffin University by 11 Strokes and the 2009 MSJ Invite, defeating three-time defending HCAC champion Transylvania University by 11 strokes. In the last five years, Sparhawk has coached numerous HCAC Players of the Week, seven All-HCAC players, and three PING Great Lakes All-Region Players (does not include 2015).
Since the 2010-2011 season, Coach Sparhawk’s Mount golf teams and players have broken many individual and team scoring records including low 18-hole team score of 285 (Battle at the Brook, Fall 2013), low 36-hole team score of 587 (Transylvania Invite, Fall 2013 and Manchester Invite, Fall 2012), low 72-hole team score of 1206 (2012 HCAC) and low 18-hole individual score of 64 (Eric Hensler-Fall 2014).
Sparhawk graduated from the Mount in 2001 with a bachelor’s degree in chemistry and obtained his master’s degree in sports administration from Xavier University in 2003. He and his wife, Tiffany, son, Jon, and daughters, Ryann and Harper, reside in Lawrenceburg, IN.
