Mount St. Joseph keeps title hopes alive with win at Franklin

FRANKLIN, IN – The first place Mount St. Joseph men's basketball team traveled to Franklin, Indiana as they looked to extend their winning streak to 3 games against the Franklin College Grizzlies (8-15, 7-9). in a pivotal late season matchup. The Lions (16-7, 13-3) are coming off of a great senior night win on Wednesday over Transylvania and they looked to carry that big win momentum into today's game against Franklin.

Franklin showed a lot of fight and determination early on in the game as they kept themselves in the game for the majority of the first half. With 8:57 left in the first half the Lions and their conference leading three-point shooting made 5 straight threes on 6 possessions leading to a 43-32 lead at halftime.

The Grizzlies started off the second half with the same intensity they started the game with as they fought back to tie the game at 57 with 12 minutes remaining in the second half. The final 10 minutes of the game was all the Lions. As they outscored Franklin 23-13 on way to a 80-70 road win over Franklin on their home court.

Lions senior guard Andrew Finley (Cincinnati, OH/Walnut Hills) led all scorers in the game with 23 points including 5 assists. Senior Erik Edwards (Cincinnati, OH/Roger Bacon) had 14 points and 6 rebounds despite playing only 15 minutes with foul trouble. The other three starters, Adam Goetz (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry), Jake Cropper (Georgetown, OH/Georgetown), and Jordan Henry (Lexington, KY/Bryan Station) all combined for 29 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists in the game.

With just 2 regular season games left, the Lions must now focus on finishing out the season strong. Their next game is Wednesday, February 14 at Hanover College in Hanover, Indiana. The Lions and Panthers (18-5, 13-3) are both in a tie for first place. With a HCAC regular season title on the line and a chance to host the conference tournament, the Lions will need to be on their "A-game" on the road Wednesday.
