Mount St. Joseph struggles at Hanover

LOCATION:  Collier Arena (Hanover, Ind.)

THE BASICS:
Mount St. Joseph (15-9, 12-5 HCAC) traveled to Hanover College (13-11, 11-6 HCAC) and lost the game 80-69. A loss by Defiance College helped the Lions stay tied atop the HCAC standings.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions came out of the gates pretty strong against the Panthers, jumping out to a 9 point lead with 12:35 to go. From that point though Hanover controlled the action the rest of the way, taking the lead for the first time with 8:29 to play, and they would not trail at any point the rest of the game. The Panthers held the Mount scoreless over the final 5:15 of the first half, save a desperation heave by Andrew Finley at the buzzer.

Trailing 34-21 coming out of the break the Lions were unable to make much of a dent in the lead. They cut the game to single digits only once in the second half. The Lions dealt with foul trouble the entire game, as they had 3 players foul-out and 2 players ended the game with 4 personal fouls. The Panthers edge at the free-throw line was too much for the Lions to overcome.

STANDOUTS
The point guards led the way for the Lions as Finley ended the game with 21 points and back-up point guard Jordan Henry added 20 off the bench to continue his stellar offensive play of late.

UP NEXT
The Lions will play host to Earlham College (2-22, 1-16 HCAC) Saturday with the tip scheduled for 3 p.m. It will be the final regular season home game for Joel Scudder, Femi Thompson and Travis Combs. The seniors will be recognized in a pregame ceremony.
