Lions Have an Explosive Inning that led to a 14-3 Win in Florida

AUBURNDALE, FL - The Mount St. Joseph University Lions baseball team took on the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College in day three of the Russ-Matt Invitational. The Lions were unstoppable as they came out victorious with a final score of 14-3 clinching their second victory of the tournament.

Freshman Zack Bell (Hamilton, OH / Hamilton) was the first pitcher to take the mound for The Lions. He had a great outing as he faced 24 batters in five innings. He gave up five hits, allowed three runs and struck out seven batters. In the top of the second inning the Chargers snuck a run across the plate taking their only lead of the game. The Mount stole the lead back with Brandon Shelton (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) homering to left field and driving in Tyrell Anderson (Cincinnati, OH / Western Hills). The Mount would go on to score one more before the inning finished with Colin Crowe (Mason, OH / Mason) putting up a sac fly to left field and Hunter Collins (Middletown, OH / Monroe) scoring to give The Lions a 3-1 lead.

The Chargers fought back in the top of the third earning two runs and tying the game up 3-3. This would be the last time the Chargers would cross the plate. The Mount wouldn't slow down for the rest of the game and would continue to grow their lead. In the bottom of the third inning The Lions would take back the lead and run with it as Anderson sent a sac fly out to center field, allowing Ryne Poli (Cincinnati, OH / Elder) to sneak across the plate. The Mount would gain another run in the bottom of the fourth inning when Garrett Hogan (Hamilton, OH / Badin) nailed a ball down the left field line and found himself on second base, driving in Jose Bustamante (Austell, GA / South Cobb) taking The Mount's lead to two runs.

The Mount went off in the bottom of the 5th inning scoring seven runs! The first came off of a passed ball allowing Anderson to cross the plate once again. Crowe grabbed another RBI off of a single to center field and Shelton was able to come home. Simon Schaefer (Cincinnati, OH / St. Xavier) wanted a piece of the action and singled to left field, driving in Collins for an RBI. Crowe came across the plate on a wild pitch scoring The Lions fourth run of the inning. Roman Rothwell (Monroe, OH / Monroe) also contributed to The Lions excitement as he drilled a ball down the left field line resulting in a double, allowing Poli and Schaefer to each score, bringing The Lions lead to 7 runs. The final run of the inning came from a fielding error by The Chargers third baseman which gave Rothwell the opportunity he needed to make his way across home plate.

Wyatt Myers (Waynesville, OH / Waynesville) took over on the mound in the top of the sixth inning facing three batter and striking two of them out before heading back to the dugout. The Mount grew their lead one more time when Trey Siciliano (Cape Coral, FL / Oasis) blasted a ball the right center field, earning himself a triple and two RBI's as Schaefer and Quinn Collins (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) earned the last two runs of the game.

In the top of the seventh inning Brady Jones (Augusta, KY / Bracken County) came in to close the game. During his stint on the hill he faced five batters, gave up one hit and collected two strikeouts to end the game in The Lions favor. The game finished with The Mount adding another victory to their record with final score of 14-3.
