The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team traveled to Franklin, Indiana for two matches on Saturday. In the first match, the Lions defeated Franklin College in three sets (26-24, 25-17, 25-19) to run their conference record to 5-2. The Lions are currently in third place in the HCAC with two matches remaining. In the second match of the day the Mount faced NAIA Indiana University Northwest, where they crusied to another three-set victory (25-12, 25-17, 25-12).
Leading the way for the Lions in match one was Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest), who registered 13 kills in 24 attemps for a .458 hitting percentage. Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, Oh/McAuley) had a strong game as well with 10 kills on 30 attempts for a .267 hitting percentage. She also added 23 digs to lead the team. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) led the Lions with 25 assists in the first match. Sherpensky recorded her 1,000 career kill for the Lions in the third set against the Grizzlies, and now has 1,004 kills in her collegiate career.
Match two was a little easier for the Lions. Stephanie Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) paced the Lions in that win with nine kills on only 17 attempts for a .471 hitting percentage. Emma Beyer (Liberty Township, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) tallied 16 digs and four aces, both tops for the Lions against IU Northwest.
The Lions (14-16 overall) return to action Wednesday when they travel to Hanover College for a 7:30 p.m. match. The Lions conclude the regular season Saturday with Senior Day against HCAC-foe Earlham College at 1 p.m.
