Lions' women's volleyball team suffers two road losses on Saturday

The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team traveled to Defiance, Ohio on Saturday to take on conference rival Defiance, and non-conference opponent Trine University. The Lions dropped both matches, by 3-1 scores, and are now 9-13 on the season, and 1-1 in the HCAC. The Mount is back in action on Oct. 9 when they host Bluffton University in a conference match.

The Yellow Jackets won the first two sets of the match against the Mount, 25-20, 25-20, before the Lions rebounded in set three to win, 25-15. The fourth set went back and forth between the two teams, with Defiance eventually claiming a 26-24 victory and the match, the HCAC opener for both teams. The Lions had 38 kills in the match, as they were led by Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) and Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central), who had nine kills each. Sherpensky chipped in one block solo and seven block assists. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 20 assists while teammates Emma Beyer (Liberty Township, OH/Mt. Notre Dame) and Chelsea Shanklin (Monroe, OH/Monroe) registered 11 digs each.

In the Mount's second match of the day, Trine claimed the first set, 25-18, and the Lions evened the match at 1-1 with a set two 25-20 win. The Thunder took sets three and four, 25-17 and 25-14 to claim the victory. Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had 12 kills and eight digs for the Mount, while Davis added 18 assists. Beyer totaled a match-high 16 digs.
