The Lions pushed Division II University of Findlay to four sets on Tuesday night, before falling 3-1 to the 7-2 Oilers. The Mount, 1-10 overall this season, will return to action on Sept. 20 at Capital Univerity to the two-day HCAC/OAC Challenge, taking on host Capital.'
The Lions fell by set scores of 19-25, 19-25, 25-18, 15-25 to Findlay, as they totaled more kills than the home team but were out-hit. .158 to .029. After losing the first two sets by identical scores, the Lions broke open a close third set - tied 10-all - thanks to a varied hitting attack and numerous errors by Findlay. Jessica Wilgenbusch (Sunman, IN/East Central) recorded a kill to give the Mount a 17-10 lead and a Findlay service error gave the Lions a third set win. The Mount struggled, however, with their hitting in set four, converting 10 kills, but making 14 hitting errors in the final set, as Findlay parlayed a 6-5 lead into a 17-10 lead as they rolled to the win. A service ace for the 25th point gave the Oilers the victory.
Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) led the Mount with 12 kills, one block solo and four block assists, while teammate Hanah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had 10 kills and 10 digs. Torrie Whitmore (Mason, OH/Mason) had 36 assists and three block assists. Emma Beyer (Liberty Township, OH/Mt,. Notre Dame) and Chelsea Shanklin (Monroe, OH/Monroe) also recorded double-figure dig totals, recording 14 and 13, respectively.
