The Lions got a well-balanced offensive attack, and strong, overall defensive play on Senior Night on Wednesday, as they recorded a 3-1 win over Transylavania University and clinched the HCAC regular season title. The Mount 11-13 overall, finishes conference play with an 8-1 mark while the Pioneers fall to 7-1 in the HCAC. The Mount will host the semifinals and the championship of the HCAC Tournament on Nov. 3-4. Click here for complete brackets and information regarding the HCAC Tournament. The Lions will play next on Oct. 27 against Centre College and Roanoke College at the Centre College Halloween Bash.
The Mount grabbed the first two sets of the match, 25-19, 26-24 before dropping the third set, 25-23. They rebounded to win set four, and claim the match win, by posting a 26-24 victory. The Lions had 47 kills in the match, with Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) leading the way with 16 kills and teammate Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) chipping in 15 kills. Ritter also had nine kills and three block assists while Sherpensky added six block assists. Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) keyed the defense with 13 digs while Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) added 11 digs. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 42 assists and 10 digs. The Mount had seven service aces and 18 block assists in the match.
Seniors Michelle Webb (Cincinnati, OH/Deer Park), Stenger and Woods were honored at the game.
