The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team improved to 5-0 in HCAC play today when they knocked off Defiance College, 3-1. The Mount, 8-11 overall, leads second place Transylvania University (4-0) and third place Defiance (3-1). The Lions are back in action on Oct. 11 when they host a conference match against Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
The Mount won the first set of the match against the Yellow Jackets, 25-23, but fell in set two, 26-24. They rebounded, however, to take the final two sets, 25-19, 25-17 to post the win. Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) had a big match for the Lions, leading the team with 17 kills and nine digs. Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) chipped in 13 kills while Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 33 assists. Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) and teammate Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic), combined fior 30 digs, recording 16 and 14 digs, respectively. Woods also had four service aces. The Mount had 54 kills as a team in the match.
