Thursday, October 04, 2012 The Lions grabbed sole possession of first place in the HCAC on Wednesday night after defeating Hanover College, 3-2 in the Harrington Center. The Mount, is 7-11 overall and 4-0 in the conference, leading Defiance College (3-0) and Transylvania University (2-0) in the HCAC standings. The Lions return to action on Oct. 6 when they host another conference match, taking on Defiance. The Mount won the first set against Hanover College, 25-15, but found itself down 2-1 after the Panthers recorded wins in sets two and three, 25-22, 25-23. The Lions, however, knotted the match at two-all when they won set four, 25-23, scoring the last two points of the set, including the set-clincher when Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) recorded a kill. The Lions jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth and deciding set, and with the score tied at nine-all, took control of the set and won the match, 15-13, as Stephanie Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) helped lead the way down the stretch. The Lions recorded 53 kills in the match, as Vanarsdall, Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley), and Chisholm all finished with double-figure kill totals, recording 16, 14, and 10 kills respectively. Vanarsdall also had 10 digs while teammate Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) added 41 assists and 14 digs. Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) had seven block assists.
