Lions' women's volleyball team splits two matches in action in Richmond, IN

The College of Mount St. Joseph women's volleyball team was in action on Saturday in Richmond, IN, taking on conference-rival Earlham College and non-conference opponent Indiana University East. The Lions defeated Earlham College, 3-0, to run their HCAC mark to 3-0 on the season, and fell to NAIA IU East, 3-0. The Mount is back in action on Oct. 3 when they host a conference match against Hanoer College.

The Lions moved held onto their lead in the HCAC standings by knocking off the Quakers in the day's first action, 25-13, 25-20, 25-21. The Mount recorded 39 kills in the match, as Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) led the way with 13 kills and a .500 hitting percentage. She also chipped in two block assists. Teammate Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) chipped in 17 assists, nine digs and three service aces while Bethani Ritter (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) added 10 digs, seven kills, four service aces and two block assists. Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) had nine digs.

IU East ran their season record to 19-1, after defeating the Mount, 25-23, 25-20. 25-10. Ritter had eight kills and five digs against the Red Wolves while Sherpensky had six kills and two block assists. Davis added 25 assists and eight digs while Stenger finished with a team-high 12 digs.
