Lions' women's volleyball completes play at the Wittenberg University Fall Classic

The Lions finished play at the two-day Wittenberg University Fall Classic on Saturday, taking on two ranked teams. The Mount dropped a 3-0 decision to
#14-ranked Otterbein University and then lost to host Wittenberg, the second-ranked team in the nation, 3-1. The Mount, 1-8 on the season, returns to action on Sept. 19 when they play their 2012 HCAC opener at Bluftton University.

In the day's first action for the Lions, Otterbein defeated the Mount, 25-12, 25-15, 25-18 as they improved to 8-5 on the season. Nicole Sherpensky (Cincinnati, OH/Northwest) had eight kills for the Mount while teammate Hannah Vanarsdall (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) chipped in six kills. Janelle Davis (Convoy, OH/Wayne Trace) had 16 assists and Jaclyn Stenger (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) added six digs.

Wittenberg upped its record to 8-2 on the season, when they knocked off the Lions, 25-11, 25-22, 17-25, 25-14. The Lions had 36 kills in the match, led by Vanarsdall's 11 kills. Davis totaled 15 assits while Melanie Monahan (Mason, OH/Bishop Fenwick) recorded 14 assists and three service aces. Stenger and Michelle Woods (Ft. Wright, KY/Newport Central Catholic) combined for 32 digs, recording 19 and 13 digs respectively, while Stephanie Chisholm (Cincinnati, OH/Oak Hills) collected four blocks.

Woods was named to the All-Tournament team.
