Lions Place Ninth at Spartan Mat Classic

The College of Mount St. Joseph wrestling team earned a ninth place finish in the Spartan Mat Classic held at Manchester University. The Lions earned 43.5 points with a second, fourth, and fifth place finish. Baldwin Wallace was the champion of the classic with 147.0 points, followed closely by North Central College (141.0 points) and University of the Cumberlands (132.0 points).

Nick Manning (Moores Hill, IN/South Dearborn) competed for the Lions in the 174-pound class. Manning lost 10-5 in the third place match to finish the day with a record of 3-2.

Tyler Ray (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) had a strong day for the Lions with a fifth place finish. Ray started the day 2-0 before two consecutive defeats. Ray won the fith place match in the 184-pound class by a score of 6-2.

Sean Brooks (Englewood, OH/Northmont) had the highest finish of the day for the Lions. Brooks entered the heavyweight class as the #1 overall seed and proceeded to win his first three matches. Brooks was defeated in the championship match 3-2 to earn a second place finish. 

The Lions will return to action at the Max Servies Duals held at Wabash College next Saturday.
