The College of Mount St. Joseph wrestling team, under first-year Head Coach Dustin Baynes, began the 2013-2014 season this past weekend at the Baldwin Wallace University Open in Berea, Ohio.
The Lions had 10 wrestlers compete in the Open, with four turning in top-six placings. Leading the way for the Mount were: 174-pounder Nick Manning (Moores Hill, IN/South Dearborn), 285-pounder Sean Brooks (Englewood, OH/Northmont), 149-pounder Wayne Black (Indianapolis, IN/Pike), and 184-pounder Tyler Ray (West Chester, OH/Lakota East). Manning came in second place, recording a 2-1 mark. Brooks placed third and had a 2-2 mark, while Black was 3-1 in his weight class, winning his last match 5-2. Ray had a 3-1 mark and also placed third, winning his final match by a fall, 3:25. Brian Carter (Bethel, OH/Bethel-Tate), at 141; and teammate Nathan Islamovsky (Eaton, OH/Eaton), at 285, also won matches in their weight class.
The Mount is back in action on Nov. 9 at the Washington & Jefferson College Open.
