Lions' wrestling concludes season at Regional Tournament

On Saturday the Lions wrestling squad traveled to Ada, Ohio to compete in the NCAA Division III Mideast Regional Tournament at Ohio Northern University. The Lions placed 13th at the Regional with 27.5 points. Elizabethtown, Mount Union, and Brockport were the top three schools in the team point standings.

For the Lions, Wayne Black (Indianapolis, IN/Pike) finished fourth, one spot away from qualifying, in the 141-pound weight class. Blackm who was the number one seed in the 141 pound class, won his first two matches. Black then lost in the semifinal round to the eventual regional champion. He followed that up with a win in the consolation bracket, but lost in the third-place match with a trip to nationals at stake. 

Cory Disbennett (Bethel, OH/Bethel Tate) suffered the same reuslt as Black by finishing fourth. Disbennett was the number three seed in the 165-pound weight class, where he won his first two matches before losing to the number-two seed. Disbennett won his first match in the consolation bracker followed by a tough 4-3 defeat in the third place match. 

This concludes the 2012-2013 season for the Lions, and the career of six Lions' wrestlers. The senior class was part of three conference championships.
