The College of Mount St. Joseph women's lacrosse team raced out to a 13-1 lead at the half, and never looked back, recording a 19-2 home win on Sunday over MWLC-rival Fontbonne University. The Mount improves to 7-5 overall, 5-3 in the conference and will return to action on April 9 at Transylvania University in a non-conference game.
The Lions got goals from six different players in amassing their large halftime lead, including three scores from Erica Walsh (Louisvlle, KY/Sacred Heart). They builit their lead to 19-1 by the 7:52 mark of the second half, before Fontbonne scored the game's last point.
Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), Holly Hubble (Cincinnati, OH/Loveland), and Walsh had four goals each in the game while teammate Nicole Sifri (Cincinnati, OH/McAuley) added three goals. Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) and Hughes also collected two assists each. Bristyl Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) had two saves in goal and got the win.
The Mount held a commanding 43-6 advantage in shots, including 34-4 in shots on goal. The Mount forced 18 turnovers while committing 10 turnovers.
