Host Capital University scored five unanswered goals in the second half of Wednesday, erasing a 6-5 Mount lead en route to a 10-6 win over the Lions. The Mount, 2-4 overall, will look to improve their 1-2 MWLC mark on Mar. 22 when they host Aurora University.
The Lions jumped out to a 4-0 lead over the Crusaders, thanks to two goals by Samantha Hughes (Cincinnati, OH/Colerain), and single goals each by Chrissy O'Hara (Cincinnati, OH/Mercy) and Erica Walsh (Louisville, KY/Sacred Heart). Capital, however, would bounce back to score the last four goals of the half - leading to a 4-4 tie at the intermission - and the first goal of the second half, to take a 5-4 lead. O'Hara and Hughes would tally the next goals in the game, giving the Lions a 6-5 lead with 23:45 to play in the game. Capital would take a 7-6 lead with just over 15 minutes left to play, and never relinquish their advantage as they scored the last five goals of the contest.
Capital held a 36-27 lead in shots, but the two teams tied with 22-each with shots on goal. Hughes led the Mount offense with three goals while O'Hara chipped in two goals and an assists. Sami Ives (Erlanger, KY/St. Henry) had 12 saves in goal against Capital, which inmproved to 4-0 on the season.
