The College of Mount St. Joseph’s Paige Apel (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) has been named the Midwest Women’s Lacrosse Conference Defensive Player of the Week.

Apel, a senior goalie, made 10 saves during the Lions’ 8-7 comeback win at MWLC-rival Beloit College on March 30. The Lions rallied from a 7-4 second half deficit as Apel held off a Buccaneer team that had a 31-21 advantage in shots, including a 17-15 advantage in shots on goal. The win was Lions first in conference play this season, giving them a 3-2 overall record, and 1-0 mark in the conference.

Apel has played and started in goal in all five of the Mount’s games this season, recording 51 saves, and allowing 50 goals (10.33 per game) in 275-plus minutes of action.
