Lions' freshman runner Amanda Shelby claims first place at MSJ Invitational

College of Mount St. Joseph freshman Amanda Shelby (West Chester, OH/Lakota West) turned in a stellar performance in her first-ever collegiate race, winning the individual title at the 5K College of Mount St. Joseph Invitational. Shelby recorded a time of 19:48.13 to lead the way at Heritage Park in Cincinnati, Ohio. Her time was the second-fastest in Mount women's cross country history over a 5K course.

The Lions placed third in the team standings, with Lions' runner Cyreesa Raber (West Chester, OH/Lakota East) placing ninth overall and teammate Kelleen Scott (Newark, OH/Newark Catholic) coming in 10th among individual runners. Division I Xavier University was first in the team standings while HCAC-rival Transylyania University was second in the team standings. Cincinnati Christian University was fourth. The Mount had six runners in all compete.

The Mount is back in action on Sept. 8 at the Hanover College Invitational.
