Host Hanover College grabbed a 37-30 halftime lead on Wednesday night, and used a shutdown defense during the game final minutes to post a 72-54 win over the Mount. The Lions, 1-13 overall, 1-6 in the HCAC, will be back in action on Jan. 18 at HCAC-rival Rose-Hulman.

The Panthers led by seven points at the half, despite being out-shot from the floor by the Lions. Hanover managed to post the lead thanks in part to going 12-of-15 from the free throw line in the first half. They would add 13-of-18 free throw attempts in the second half, to finish 25-of-33 from the charity stripe for the game, to the Mount's six-of-13 from the line for the game. Hanover increased its lead to 49-32 just 4 1/2 minutes into the second half, but when Brooke Mosler (Maysville, KY/St. Patrick's) hit a three-pointer, they led by just a 56-49 margin.

Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) hit ttwo free throws with 7:48 to remaining in the game, to cut the deficit to 57-51, but the Lions would get no closer as they did not score again until there was 56 seconds left to play in the game. The Mount suffered 30 turnovers in the match, while forcing 19 Hanover turnovers.

Mosler led the Mount with 13 points and nine rebounds while Brilyn Webb (Oxford, OH/Talawanda) added 12 points.
