Visiting Wilmington College scored on a lay-up with 11 seconds to play in the game as they clipped the Lions, 50-48 in action on Wednesday night in the Harrington Center. The Mount, 0-4 on the season, will resume action on Dec. 1 when they host HCAC-opponent Earlham College in the 2012-13 HCAC season opener.

The Lions jumped out to a 29-19 lead at the intermission against the Quakers, thanks to holding their opponent to 26 percent shooting in the opening half, including zero-for-five from behind the three-point arc. The Mount received seven points from both Tara Dennis (Batavia, OH/Williamsburg) and Alex Donald (Litchfield, ME/Oak Hill) in the first half, as they out-rebounded the Quakers, 22-17, and forced nine turnovers.

Wilmington rolled out to a 9-0 run to start the second half, knotting the score at 29-all with 17:15 to play. They would push their lead to five points, before Dennis tied the game at 38-all with 5:23 to play, scoring on a lay-up. Heidi McManus (Bethel, OH/Williamsburg) converted two free throws to enable the Lions to take a 46-40 lead with 2:24 only to see the Quakers post a comeback. Wilmington connected on a three-point shot from the corner with 50 seconds to play, to regain the lead, 48-46, but Dennis would tie the score just 31 seconds later on a lay-up. The Lions turned the ball over on their final possession of the game, following the go-ahead layup by Wilmington with 11 seconds to play.

Dennis led the way with a game-high 15 points and six rebounds while Donald added 11 points. Melanie Monahan (Mason, OH/Bishop Fenwick) chipped in six rebounds. The Quakers won the battle of the boards, 46-36 but committed 23 turnovers while forcing 18 Mount miscues.
