Athletic Training Students

The College of Mount St. Joseph Athletic Training staff holds a monthly meeting to determine the Athletic Training Student of the Month. The nominees are selected based on current on-campus clinical rotations, and the winner(s) are chosen based on outstanding initiative, leadership qualities, and willingness to learn. All eligible nominees are currently enrolled in The Mount’s CAATE accredited Athletic Training Education Program www.msj.edu/view/academics/undergraduate-programs/athletic-training.aspx At the end of the year, the staff votes on an Outstanding Clinician for each class level.

We would like to take the opportunity to introduce you to the 2011-2012 Athletic Training Students of the Month. Check back monthly for the newest addition to our Wall of Fame!

Rachael Wuestefeld - September 2011 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Rachael comes to the Mount from Batesville, Indiana after attending high school at Oldenburg Academy. Currently, she works with our soccer teams, but will be working with the Cincinnati Cyclones hockey team in the Spring. Her favorite thing about being in the athletic training program is being able to help the athletes and being on the sidelines of events. Her free time is spent playing softball and spending time with friends and family. Family is very important to her, as well as continuing to do well in her undergraduate academic career so she can move on to graduate school. One day, she would love to own a house on a lake, with a jeep playing country music on the radio in the driveway, and be a pediatric physical therapist at St. Jude’s Hospital. Rachael Wuestefeld

Chalemae Gast – October 2011 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Mae comes to the Mount from Springboro, Ohio after attending high school at Springboro High School. Currently, she works with the football team. Her favorite thing about being in the athletic training program is the active lifestyle and new challenges the major presents; however, she does not care for the homework on top of her clinicals. Her free time is spent dancing, reading and writing, and spending time with friends. Family and school are very important to her. She loves to listen to Skillet and one day would like to drive her mini cooper to visit Harry Potter World, where she could be Hermione Granger for a day. Chalemae Gast

Gina Carmosino - November 2011 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Gina attended Mother of Mercy High School in Cincinnati. She just finished her rotation working with the men’s basketball team. Gina enjoys working with athletes and helping them return back to their full potential and loves learning new things every day. When she is not in school or in the athletic training clinic, she enjoys spending time with friends, playing softball, and running. Schoolwork and friends are very important to her right now. She enjoys listening to Sugarland and would like to be Jennifer Nettles for a day. Gina would also love to have a lot of money one day so she could travel anywhere at any given time. Gina Carmisino

Samantha Greco - December 2011 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Samantha most recently worked with the wrestling team. She attended Colerain High School. Working with people and helping them achieve their goals are reasons she became interested in athletic training. One of her favorite things about athletic training is the fact that you never know what you’re going to get. She enjoys running, exercising, and spending time with friends. Her family and school are important to her. She wishes to graduate with a degree, have a jet to travel the world, and have an unlimited supply of clothing and shoes. If she could be anyone for a day, she would be Jennifer Lopez. Samantha Greco

Eben DeMatteo - January 2012 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

This is Eben’s second award as ATS of the Month. Eben’s first honors came in November 2010. Eben is a Cincinnati native, a graduate from La Salle High School, and currently an AT student with the Track and Field team. In the fall, Eben did an internship with the Cincinnati Bengals. Recently, Eben was nominated as co-president of the MSJ Athletic Training Club. When asked what we should know about him, Eben stated “I like long walks on the beach, preferably not on the Ohio River; Florida or South Carolina would be best.” Eben looks forward to being a senior next year and states that his time at MSJ has flown by fast. Eben DeMatteo

Chris Klaine - February 2012 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Chris is a local student, graduating from Taylor High School. He currently works with track and field at MSJ. His favorite part of athletic training is learning how to take care of all the injuries he sees, which was originally sparked after being injured his freshman year. In his free time, he enjoys hiking, camping, and traveling. His grades, family, and friends are important to him right now. He enjoys listening to Incubus and would wish for a large bag of Lucky Charms marshmallows, a time machine, and more wishes if he had three. Chris Klaine

Craig Patrick - March 2012 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Craig comes to us from Middletown after graduating from Middletown High School. Currently, he works with the baseball team. His favorite thing about being in the athletic training program is the everyday hustle; however, he does not care for the khaki shorts and not being allowed to drive the gator. In his free time, he enjoys Frisbee golf, and relaxing. If he could be anyone for a day, he would like to be Will Ferrell and have a lifetime supply of diet coke, make six figures, and have a 1969 Dodge Charger with music from the Zack Brown Band, Nickelback, and Stevie Ray Vaughan playing from the speakers. Criag Patrick

Kayla Wuest - April 2012 - Athletic Training Student of the Month

Kayla made the long trip to MSJ all the way from Harrison, Ohio where she attended Harrison High School. Kayla is currently a sophomore in the AT Program, assigned to Women’s Lacrosse. Kayla states her favorite thing about athletic training is helping others and being around sports; her least favorite, putting in long hours for free. We asked Kayla who her favorite music artist is and she stated “Kenny Chesney, for sure.” If Kayla could be anyone for a day she would choose John Mozeliak, the GM of the St. Louis Cardinals.
