HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lions started the first set off strong, taking a quick 5-1 lead over the Yellow Jackets. Defiance was able to bring the score back midway through the set but a four point service run from Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) would give the Lions some breathing room. The Lions kept up the pressure and a Yellow Jacket error secured the set one 25-15 victory. The Lions continued their momentum to take another 5-1 lead but Defiance would quickly counter and tie the score at 11. Defiance would go on to take the lead but the Lions battled back to tie the score at 20. The Lions held tight and back to back kills from Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) lead to a 25-22 victory. The Lions struggled to find their rhythm in the third set and Defiance found a way to stay close the whole set. Tied at 20, the match went point for point and forced extra points. Back to back errors from the Lions would lead to a Defiance 27-25 victory. The Lions continued their struggles in the fourth set and found themselves at a deficit early. The offense wasn't able to find a rhythm resulting in 25-12 loss. The Lions picked up their play in the final set to take a 3-0 lead. The Lions wouldn't lose the lead in the final set and won the set 15-11 and the match 3-2.
