LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH (Harrington Center)
The Lions took on visiting Bluffton University in their second conference match of the year. The Lions were looking to continue their conference win streak but the Beavers wouldn't let that happen. Bluffton was able to come out with the win in a close five set match with a final score of 3-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first set the Lions started off slowly but quickly picked up the pace. They were able to find offense from Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) to take the lead. The Beavers weren't going down easy but a block by Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison) and Hannah Meckstroth (North Bend, OH / Taylor) gave the Lions the first set 25-21. They were able to build off of their momentum from the last set to take a quick lead. The Lions held the lead until Bluffton mounted a comeback. Both teams fought to keep the lead during the final points but Bluffton was able to come out with the second set 25-23. In the third set neither team could break away, staying within 2 points of each other the whole match. Bluffton found a rhythm at the end of the set and were able to take set three 25-21. The Lions played outstanding defense to take an early lead in the fourth set. Bluffton came within a few points but The Lions were able to finish the fourth set 25-20. In the fifth and final set both teams weren't able to find their offense. The score was tied for most of the set but the Lions fell in the final points 15-13
Hannah Losey and Cailey Plemmons (Oxford, OH / Talawanda) led the Lions offense by finding the floor 14 and 17 times, respectively. Briana Looney defended the net with six blocks while Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) cleaned up the back row to grab 21 digs.
