Lions come out victorious in their first conference match

LOCATION: Cincinnati, OH (Harrington Center)

THE BASICS:

In the Lions first conference match of the season they faced Anderson University at the Harrington Center. The Lions weren't able to pull away early in the match but finished strong with a 3-0 sweep over the visiting Ravens.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

In the first set the Lions quickly found their groove. They built a small lead and wouldn't trail for the rest of set. Every time Anderson would get close the Mount would find a way to counter back with a run of their own. A huge kill by Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) would give the Lions the first set 25-21. The second set neither team was able to break away. In the final points a kill by Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) gave the Lions the space they needed to take the set. A hitting error by Anderson gave the Lions the second set 25-22. The final set of the match was dominated by the Lions as they quickly took a 10-3 lead. Four serves by Riley Brashear (Maineville, OH / Kings) would lead the Lions to an easy victory over their conference opponents 25-12 with a final score of 3-0.

THE STANDOUTS:

Briana Looney (Harrison, OH / Harrison) had an amazing game, finding the floor 14 times while hitting an outstanding .520. Libero Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County) led the Lions defense with 14 digs.

UP NEXT:

The Lions (12-7) look to continue their conference success with another home match against Bluffton (9-8) next Wednesday 10/4 at 7PM.
