In a battle between The Mount and Spalding University the Lions were able to come out victorious with a 3-0 sweep for new head coach Abby Smith's first home win at The Mount.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
In the first set The Mount struggled to find their groove, finding themselves in a 10-5 deficit. After a string of kills by outside hitter Hannah Losey (Tipp City, OH / Tippecanoe) the Lions were able to fight back and compete. The two teams continued to battle, each point going back and forth, no one able to comfortably take the lead. The Lions were able to make a couple runs, using their defense to string together stops and lead them to a victory, 25-19.
Neither team was ready to give up in the second set, battling to gain control. When one team was able to make a run, the other came right back with a run of their own. A block by Riley Brunner (Lawrenceburg, IN / Lawrenceburg) and Hannah Meckstroth (North Bend, OH / Taylor) gave the Lions the momentum they needed. The Lions struggled to close the game, making a few errors but they were able to close out the set with a service ace by Karlie Schell (West Harrison, IN / Franklin County).
The final set told the same story as the last, both teams fighting back and forth trying to gain position. A six point service run by Sydney Wilzbach (Cincinnati, OH / Northwest) solidified the lead for the Lions as they looked end the battle. The Lions were able to finish with ease, taking the last set of the match 25-19 to win their first home match of the season.
In new head coach Abby Smith's first home win at the Mount the Lions were led by outside hitter Riley Brunner as she earned 13 kills and picked up 11 digs. Teammate Karlie Schell cleaned up the back row grabbing 11 digs to lead the Lions defense.
