Lions travel to Hanover for Outdoor competition

The Lady Lions traveled to Hanover College on Saturday, March 31st for the Hanover Invitational. The women finished in 8th overall in part due to strong individual and team performances.

            Sophomore Andi Meyer (Ft. Loramie, OH/ Ft. Loramie) had a fantastic today which included setting a new school record. Meyer finished 4th overall in pole vault by clearing a height of 3.05 M (10 feet). Meyer set the school record in high jump by clearing a height of 1.59 M (5.216 feet) which put her in 2nd place as she recorded more misses than the first place finisher. Fellow pole vaulter Anna Schoster (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) finished 2nd by clearing a height of 3.20 M (10.50 feet). Schoster also placed in the 100 M hurdles placing 8th in a time of 18.57.

            Junior Maria Waters and Sophomore Emma Roth also had strong performances in the 1500 M and the 800 M respectively. Waters Finished 6th overall in the 1500 M with a time of 5:19.28. Roth ran the 800 M in a time of 2:28.69 which put her in 6th place.

            Freshman Nave' Winn (Lexington, KY/ Tates Creek) had strong day jumping in both long and triple jump. Winn placed 2nd in the triple jump with a distance of 10.10 M (33.13 feet). Winn followed this performance up with a 7th place finish in long jump by leaping a distance of 4.63 M (15.19 feet)

The relay teams also had strong performances in the 4 x 100 M relay and the 4 x 400 M relay. The 4 x 100 M relay team made up of: LaTaya Winn (Lexington, KY/ Tates Creek), Nave' Winn (Lexington, KY/ Tates Creek), Jodie Weimer (Cleves, OH/ Taylor), and Julia Cason (Cincinnati, OH/ McAuley) finished 7th overall in a time of 52.95. The 4 x 400 M relay consisting of: Emma Roth (Cincinnati, OH/ Lakota West), Ashley Lewis, LaTaya Winn (Lexington, KY/ Tates Creek), and Solange Cooper (St. Johns, FL/ Bartram Trail) combined for a 4th place finish in a time of 4:20.78.

            The women were happy with the meet on both and individual and team aspect. The team will compete next Saturday at Wilmington where they hope to continue these strong performances.
