DEFIANCE, Ohio—The Lions lost a close conference match up to Defiance College.The final score was 5-4 with the Yellow Jackets defeating our Lions in a tie breaking doubles match.
The started with doubles, and the Lions won 1 out of 3 matches. Katie Fellinger (North Bend, Ohio / Taylor) and Allison Sullivan (Cincinnati, Ohio / Seton) won the lone doubles match with a huge 8-2 victory. Two other fierce Lions, Jessica Berger (Milan, Indiana / Milan) and Kelsey Knodell (Delaware, Ohio / Rutherford B. Hayes), were close to a victory that slipped through their fingers by a score of 9-8. In this match the two sides tied at eight and played a tie breaking set where the Yellow Jackets barely slipped past the Lions to win in the end.
In the singles matchups the Mount won 3 out of the 6 matches of the day. Fellinger, Knodell and Tessa Mayes (Cincinnati, Ohio / Colerain) were the Lions to come out on top. The other Lions played some intense tennis but could not solidify a win against their opponent. The Mount fought until the bitter end trying to secure another conference win but were not able to defeat the Yellow Jackets, resulting in a 5-4 loss.
