The Lions defeat Ohio Wesleyan 6-2

Location: Jay Martin Soccer Complex (Delaware, OH)

The Basics:

The Lions traveled to Delaware, OH on a Wednesday night to take on the Bishops of Ohio Wesleyan University. Both teams didn't waste any time catching fire, scoring a combined 5 goals in the first half. The Lions offense would catch fire in the second half leading them to a 6-2 victory over Ohio Wesleyan.

How it Happened:

Ohio Wesleyan stunned the Lions with an early goal in the 3rd minute. Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH / Harrison) found the net for the Lions soon after in the 5th minute to tie up the game. The Lions continued to be aggressive but the Bishops found the goal once again in the 20th minute to gain the lead. Gruber took multiple shots on goal and finally connected again in the 22nd minute from an Etelle n'For (Frankfort, Ky / Western Hills) assist, giving the Lions the equalizer once again. Both teams picked up their defense halfway through the half but the Lions would find the net one more time before the half on a goal from Jodie Weimer (Cleves, OH / Taylor). The Mount held tight to keep their 3-2 going into halftime.

In the second half the Lions played outstanding defense and offense, leaving their opponents scoreless during the half. Hannah Schloemer (Lawrenceburg, IN / East Central) finished off a corner kick from Weimer in the 56th minute to give the Lions a 4-2 lead. The Lions held their opponents to 4 shots in the second half but were able to take 14 shots of their own. After some time the Lions would find the goal again on Gruber's third goal of the contest in the 81st minute. In the final minutes the Lions managed to score another goal. Anna Heiden (New Richmond, Ohio / New Richmond) connected with Gruber in the 89th minute to solidify the victory for the Lions.

Standouts:

Gruber continues to lead the Lions offense with four goals in the contest, her season high. Wiemer finds the goal for the second time this season while also assisting on a goal to Gruber. Schloemer scores the first goal of her collegiate career in the Lions victory.
