The Lions defeat the Wilmington Quakers 2-1 in a tough nail-biter

Location: Williams Stadium (Wilmington, OH)

The Basics:

The Lions traveled to Wilmington, OH to take on the Quakers of Wilmington. The Lions found the net early in the first half and would keep the lead going into the half. Wilmington was aggressive in the second half, connecting the equalizer early in the second half. Both teams battled to take the lead late in the match but the Lions were able to find the back of the net in the 88th minute to pull out a 2-1 victory.

How it Happened:

The Lions didn't waste any time gaining momentum early in the first half. Jodie Wiemer (Cleves, OH / Taylor) found the back of the net in the 9th minute from an assist from Kara Vennemeier (Harrison, OH / Harrison) to give the Lions an early lead. The Lions defense would hold strong going into the half, keeping their 1-0 lead. Wilmington cleaned up their play to start the second half and found the goal in the 52nd minute. The Quakers continued to take shots on the Lions goal but couldn't connect. Both teams were battling to take the lead going into the final minutes but Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH / Harrison) secured a victory for the Lions in the 88th minute. The Lions would hold tight in the final minutes leading to a 2-1 victory of the Wilmington Quakers.

Standouts:

Gruber continues to lead the Lions offense with her 3rd goal of the season. Wiemer secured her first goal of the season in this match also.
