Women's soccer land 8 players on the All-HCAC list

CINCINNATI, Ohio- Mount St. Joseph has been fortunate enough to have multiple players receive HCAC awards after their successful 2017 season.  1st Team All-HCAC was awarded to Stefanie Autenrieb (Cincinnati, OH), Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH/ Harrison), Alex Hines (Cincinnati, OH/ Walnut Hills), and Madeline Rechel (Harrison, OH/ Harrison).  2nd Team All-HCAC was awarded to Seniors Morgan Knasel (Sidney, OH/ Sidney) and Kara Vennemeier (Harrison, OH/ Harrison).  Other awards for The Mount players were given to Lindsey Potzick (Harrison, OH/ Harrison) and Brenna Lonneman (Windham, NH/ Central Catholic).  Potzick was awarded Honorable Mention, while Lonneman was given the Sportsmanship award.

The Lions have had one of the best seasons they've had in a while.  They were able to finish the year with a record of 17-4 overall and 7-2 in conference play.  The team was led by their outstanding defensive performances that resulted in eight shutouts during the season.  The Lions were able to defeat Hanover in the HCAC tournament, but fell short of an HCAC title after losing to Franklin in the Championship match.

Multiple players received 1st team All-HCAC.  Junior Kaylan Gruber (Forward) led the team on the offensive end totaling 13 goals on the season and 26 points.  Kaylan's amazing speed allowed her to get to the net often, as she led the team with 51 total shots.  She has been the spark for the Lions offense and the team looks forward to seeing what she can do in her senior year. Sophomore Stefanie Autenrieb (Midfield) was also 1st team.  Stefanie was able to score 2 goals on the season but was mainly used as a defensive weapon.  Her hustle and determination added to the attitude of the defense.  Sophomore Madeline Rechel (Back) also played a key role on the team.  She finished the year with 2 goals and 1 assist, but mostly used her talents on the defensive side of the ball.  She was able to use her speed to catch loose balls and cause multiple turnovers.  Freshman Alex Hines (Back) was recognized for her defense as well.  She had lots of success in her first year at the Mount, as she played very aggressive to contribute to the dominance of the Lion's defense.

Two seniors received 2nd team All-HCAC.  Morgan Knasel (Forward) finished her senior season with 6 goals and 1 assist.  She was a key role in the Lions offense to get the ball to the net and create scoring opportunities for herself and teammates.  Kara Vennemeier (Midfield) also received 2nd team honors.  She finished the season with 2 goals and 2 assists in her final year.  Kara was a key defender who contributed to keeping the ball on the Lion's side of the field.  She used her athleticism to make things happen and set her teammates up for shots at the net.

Seniors Lindsey Potzick and Brenna Lonneman were also recognized by the conference.  Lindsey received Honorable mention, as she finished the season with 4 goals and 1 assist in her final year.  Brenna was given the Sportsmanship award for her attitude toward her competitors and teammates.  She finished the year with 1 goal and 4 assists.  She was an important player on the offensive end as she was able to set her teammates up to score on multiple occasions.

Although the Lions will be graduating a large amount of key players, the team looks to have a lot of young talent.  The team will return all the players that received first team this year including their key offensive weapon Kaylan Gruber.  The Lions will look forward to a bright future in hopes to get another chance at the HCAC title.
