Lions Fall Against HCAC Rival

Location: Anderson, IN

The Basics:

Mount St. Joseph traveled to face Anderson University in their conference opener.  The Lions have been on a 7 game winning streak and looked to get their first conference win.  The match was a defensive battle as both teams struggled to get shots up at the goal.  There was only 7 shots on goal for each team the entire game.  Anderson was able to score the only goal in the second half to give them the win over the Lions with a final of 1-0.

How it Happened:

The match was a battle of two defensive based teams.  Each team struggled to get to the net and get opportunities to score.  In the first half the Lions totaled 3 shots on goal, while Anderson also only had 3 opportunities to score.  Nobody was able to score in the first half as both teams went into halftime tied at 0.  In the second half the hard defensive play continued.  Each team totaled 4 shots in the second half.  Anderson was able to score the go ahead goal in the 61st minute to put them on top of the Lions 1-0.  Mount St. Joseph tried to get a tying goal to send the game into overtime, but wasn't able to score.  This resulted in the Lions falling to Anderson with a final of 1-0.

Standouts:

Stefanie Autenrieb (Cincinnati, OH/ Seton) was able to lead the Lions on the offensive end.  She recorded 3 shots total and 2 shots on goal.

The Lions (9-2, 0-1) will try to bounce back and improve their conference record as they travel to face another HCAC competitor in Transylvania University (3-5-2, 1-0) on Thursday, 10/5 at 7:00 pm.
