Mount St. Joseph Able to Steal the Win on the Road in Tough Match against Centre

Location: Amend Field (Danville, KY)

The Basics:

The Lions took on a tough opponent this Wednesday 9/27.  Mount St. Joseph came into the game with a load of confidence after winning their past 6 games with outstanding defensive play.  The game was closely contested by both teams and the score was kept close the entire match.  The Lions were able to come away with the victory after a goal in the final minute of regulation.

How it Happened:

Mount St. Joseph traveled to Danville, KY to take on Centre College in a highly anticipated matchup.  Both teams had their hands full as this was a very defensive game.  The Lions were only able to get a shot on the goal 5 times in the first half, but were able to connect in the 28th minute with a goal from Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH/ Harrison).  This was able to put the Lions in front 1-0 before halftime.  In the second half, the effort by both teams continued to be outstanding.  Centre was able to tie the game up with a goal of their own during the 64th minute to make the score 1-1.  The Lions struggled to get past Centre's defense in the second half with only 3 shots on the goal.  With the game tied and under a minute left, the matched looked to be going into overtime.  The Lions were able to get the ball to Kaylan Gruber who was able to use her speed to fly past the Centre defense and get the ball into the net for the go ahead goal with only 36 seconds remaining in regulation.  Gruber's performance was able to secure the lead with little time remaining and ultimately give the Lions the win with a final of 2-1.  This would improve the Lions overall record to 9-1.

Standouts:

Kaylan Gruber was able to score both goals in the win against Centre, including the winning goal with under a minute remaining to put the Lions in front.  Her offensive play has been incredible all season and she has become a special weapon for the Lions offense.
