The Mount St. Joseph Lions faced Heidelberg in a very intense match Sunday 9/17. Heidelberg held the lead at halftime 1-0 over the Lions. In the second half, the Lions were able to connect with the net twice to come out with the win improving their record to 6-1.
How it Happened:
The Lions started off aggressive as they were able to get to the goal and take their shots early in the game. Heidelberg was able to score first and take the lead over the Lions 11 minutes into the first half. The Lions would trail Heidelberg 1-0 at halftime. Coming into the second half the Lions looked determined. Kaylan Gruber (Harrison, OH/ Harrison) was able to get a goal early in the second half to get the Lions back into the game and tie the score 1-1. The game remained tied for most of the second half as both teams tried to gain the lead. With under 2 minutes remaining, Kaylan Gruber was able to get to the net once again to give the Lions the lead late in the game. The Lions were able to finish the match ahead of Heidelberg with a final score of 2-1.
Kaylan Gruber was able to come up huge for the Lions in the big win. She scored the winning goal with under 2 minutes remaining in the game. The Lions defense only allowed 8 shots on goal as they continue to play at a high level.
The Lions will travel to St. Louis, MO next to take on the Griffins of Fontbonne University on 9/23 at 1:00 PM
