Lions selected to finish third in the HCAC Preseason Polls

Mount St. Joseph's Women's soccer team has been selected to finish third in the HCAC preseason polls.  The Lions were place in third with 72 points after a tie for first by Hanover and Franklin each receiving 85 points.  The Lions were followed by Rose Hulman, Transylvania, Anderson, Manchester, Earlham, Defiance, and Bluffton.

The Lions are ready to get back on the field after a successful 2016 season.  They finished the year with an overall record of 11-7-1 and a conference record of 7-2.  The team played well enough to make it to the post season where they faced Hanover in the Conference Semifinal.  The Lions came close but fell to Hanover with a final score of 2-1.  This ended the season for the Lions while Hanover went on to win the HCAC title against Franklin with a final score of 1-0 to clinch their 4th straight championship.

Coach Josh Hess has done an amazing job recruiting new athletes to add more talent to the team's roster.  The Lions are excited to return some key pieces to the team that contributed to last year's success as well.  Stefanie Autenrieb returns to the Lions after an impressive freshman season.  She was awarded 2nd team All HCAC and also 3rd team 2016 Women's NCAA DIII All Ohio after finishing her season with 9 goals.  The Lions also will welcome back Sophomore Madeline Rechel.  She also had an immaculate freshman season last year after making 1st team All HCAC and 2nd team 2016 Women's NCAA DII All Ohio.  These returning weapons will be a key factor in keeping a winning tradition this season for the Lions.  The team starts their season on 9/2 against Wilmington College at Schueler Field at 3:30 pm.
