ANGOLA, Indiana - The Mount St. Joseph wrestling team traveled to Trine University to take part in the 2018 Trine Invitational. The team finished in 6th place overall overall in the tournament behind another outstanding effort by Antonio McCloud (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) who again won the championship at his 197lb weight.
The Lions had four wrestlers place in the top four of their weight class. At 125 lbs Jake Gentry (Ross, Ohio/Ross) finished at 4-2 and in 4th place for his second consecutive top-6 finish, to begin his college career. Nathan McClanahan (Cincinnati, Ohio/Elder) started off his day with three wins in a row, before dropping a tough 5-4 match to Tanner Mchugh of Baldwin Wallace in the finals. At heavyweight Cam Sauerwein (Harrison, Ohio/Harrison) also made the finals, going 3-1 on the day and for a second place finish. McCloud again was perfect going 4-0 for the championship. In his quarterfinal match he defeated Tyler Vittal from North Central College, who is the 7th ranked 197 lb wrestler in the country.
Blake Machesky (Anderson, Ohio/Anderson), Dylan Moran (Dayton, Ohio/Northmont) and Kaden Darbro (Louisville, Ky./St. Xavier) each registered their first collegiate win on the weekend. Machesky went 2-2. Darbro went 2-2 and Moran was 1-1 before being forced to withdraw due to medical concerns.
