Coach Spence Finds his Supporting Cast

Elliott Spence has been recently hired on as the new head coach for Mount St. Joseph Wrestling, but building a program from the bottom up is not an easy task by far.  Coach Spence has found some very experienced people to come in and help him revamp the program.  Joshua Sasfy, Charles Mason, and Orlando Scales have been brought on as Assistant Coaches.  Every assistant that he has hired brings something different to the table to give these athletes a different perspective on the sport of wrestling.  These assistants have personal experience in the sport and are decorated with many awards over their years of competing.  Having these assistants will be a huge advantage for the program to get these athletes ready for the upcoming season.

Joshua Sasfy comes from Reynoldsburg, Ohio where he was a 4-year Varsity Wrestler and State Qualifier in 2003 as well as Team Captain. He is a MSJ wrestling Alum, and was a four year Varsity Wrestler, Academic All American and multiple time Regional Placer.  He comes from a wrestling family with 2 brothers wrestling in college as well, Tommy Sasfy (Kent State) and Nick Sasfy (University of Cumberlands).  Josh has coached the previous 7 years at Mason High school who was ranked 31st in the nation last year with 7 consecutive GMC championships and 6 top 5 district finishes.  He brings an international flavor to MSJ being the owner of Barbarian Apparel who outfitted 8 Olympic teams in the Rio Olympics and has customers in 15 different countries.  He hopes to use his contacts internationally to help give the MSJ wrestlers an opportunity most teams do not get.

Charles Mason is a native of Cincinnati, OH. He attended Princeton High School where he was a two time state qualifier placing 4th in 2010. Charles wrestled collegiately at Notre Dame College under coaches Frank Romano (Current Notre Dame College Head Wrestling coach) and Anthony Ralph (Current Ohio State Assistant wrestling Coach) where he was a 2012 NCWA All-American and 2013 NCAA National Qualifier. He served as a team captain for the Notre Dame College Falcons in 2014 and joined the staff as an assistant coach in 2015. Post graduating he returned to Cincinnati where he coached at his alma mater Princeton High School, and assisted with the Cincinnati Vikings youth wrestling program.  Charles Mason currently is employed at St Joseph Orphanage Altercrest, where he serves as the Dean of Students.

Orlando Scales is a native of Cincinnati, OH. He is a well-known name around the Southwest OH wrestling scene. Orlando completed his high school career at Elder with a 125-9 record with state finishes of 3rd, 1st and 1st, including an 88-0 run during his junior and senior seasons.  Orlando saw a lot of success on the national level in Freestyle and Greco as he was a 4-time All-American at the USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman National Championships in Fargo, North Dakota. After graduating from Elder, Orlando went on to compete at Notre Dame College where he was an NAIA runner-up and NAIA national champion. The Notre Dame Falcons were NAIA national dual champions both years as well. Orlando was a NCAA All-American (5th) when Notre Dame transitioned to NCAA Division 2 and the team took 2nd at the NCAA national dual championships.
