LIBERTY, Ind. - The Mount St. Joseph women's golf team traveled to Liberty, Indiana this weekend to take part in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship. The tournament was hosted by Earlham College, at the Liberty Country Club.
The Mount St. Joseph team played very well in round one and found themselves in contention, sitting in third place. In round one the Lions were led by junior Emma Schrand (Cincinnati, Ohio/McCauley) who shot an opening round 82. The opening round 82, had Schrand tied for 8th place overall. Hayley Quatman (Cincinnati, Ohio/McCauley) was the only other Lion in the 80's on day one, opening the tournament with an 89. Patricia Windholtz (Newark, Ohio/Newark Catholic), Isabella Olthaus (Cincinnati, Ohio/Seton) and Sara Eads (Cincinnati, Ohio/Colerain) each delivered opening round scores of 90. The Lions delivered an opening round team score of 351.
The second round was not as kind to the Lions as they dropped 16 strokes from their opening round score. Eads was forced to withdraw from the tournament due to injury. Windholtz and Quatman each improved over their opening round score. Schrand who had been the Lions most consistent player this season, struggled to a second round 95.
The Lions finished fifth overall in the tournament, which was the teams best finish in history.
