Women's golf finishes second in the StateLine Shootout

Location: Miami Whitewater Forrest Golf (Harrison, OH)

The Basics:

The Mount St. Joseph women's golf team took to the course over the weekend, and for the first time in more than two years they were able to count a full team score. That score this weekend was good enough to finish second to Manchester in the inaugural StateLine Shootout.

How It Happened:

The offseason for the Lions has been full of change for the Lions, as Joe Sparhawk who is also is the Head Coach of the men's team at The Mount is no in charge of the women's team as well. With only two players returning from a season ago coach Sparhawk was forced to hit the recruiting trail hard. In total he brought in five freshman to compete alongside his two sophomores, which makes up what has to be the youngest team in the HCAC.

That hard work finally came to fruition for the Lions as they played host to Manchester, St. Mary's of the Woods, Thomas More, Oakland City and Frankllin at Miami Whitewater Forest over the weekend. The Lions played well in the first round, but the second is where they shined. Especially sophomore Emma Schrand (Cincinnati, OH/ McCauley) who fired a career low 83 in the second round, enroute to her first career tournament win.

All told the Lions had a total of 732 in the tournament good for second behind Manchester.

Schrand was the obvious standout for the Lions shooting a career low two round total of 173, securing her first career tournament victory.

Freshman Hayley Quatman (Cincinnati, OH/ McCauley) finished second for the Lions with a 184.
