Mount St. Joseph started the game off strong as they challenged the beavers by keeping the score close. Bluffton took control after the first quarter to take a four point lead over the Lions with the score at 20-14 going into halftime. The Beavers were able to have a very productive third quarter to extend their lead, while the Lions struggled on offense. The Lions were unable to decrease the deficit and were defeated by the Beavers with a final score of 51-26.
How it Happened:
The first quarter started off as an evenly matched contest. Both teams were trading buckets as the score stayed close. Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH/ Little Miami) was able to score 4 points in the quarter to help keep her team in the game. The Lions trailed Bluffton 10-8 at the end of the quarter. In the second, the Lions continued to fight to keep the score close. Bluffton would hold the lead 20-14 going into the locker room for halftime. In the third, Mount St. Joseph was struggling to get their offense going. They were outscored by the Beavers 17-6. The Beavers would hold this lead for the rest of the game to defeat the Lions 51-26.
Studer led the team in scoring with 9 points and 8 rebounds to make an impact. Hayley Hudson (Ross, OH/ Ross) did a great job crashing the boards finishing the game with 8 rebounds in the Lions defeat.
Mount Madness is coming up this Saturday, 2/3 as your Lions (10-10, 6-7) will take on Defiance (6-14, 4-9) in another HCAC battle. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM in the Harrington Center Gym.
