Mount St. Joseph looked to get back on track as they faced another conference competitor in Manchester University. The Mount was able to take control of the game early outscoring the Spartans in the first two quarters 38-17. The Lions would maintain their lead the entire game and defeat the Spartans with a final score of 65-40.
How it Happened:
The Lions were able to jump in the lead early with help from freshman guard Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mother of Mercy). She was able to total 8 points in the first quarter to help push the Mount ahead of the Spartans. The Lions would lead 16-11 at the end of the first. In the second quarter, the Lions looked to extend their lead. Haberthy was able to score another 8 points in the quarter as the Mount dominated before halftime. The team was able to outscore the Spartans 22-6 in the second quarter with multiple players getting involved on the offensive end. The Mount would hold the lead 38-17 going into halftime. The Lions did not slow down coming out of the locker room as they outplayed Manchester in the third quarter. Mount St. Joseph held a demanding lead of 58-27 going into the final quarter of play. Manchester fought to decrease the deficit, but failed to catch the Lions as they were defeated with a final score of 65-40.
The Lions were led by Haberthy who totaled 19 points, 4 assists, and 3 rebounds in the big win. Aliyah Huff (Cincinnati, OH/ Roger Bacon) was also able to make an impact for her team with 12 points, 2 blocks, and 4 rebounds. Mackenzie Marcum (Mason, OH/ Kings) made her mark on the game as well, coming off the bench to score 13 points and total a team high 8 rebounds.
The Lions (10-9, 6-6) will host the Bluffton Beavers (14-5, 9-3) this coming Wednesday, 1/31. The Mount will look to improve their conference record as tipoff is set for 7:30 PM.
