Mount St. Joseph struggled early against the Pioneers as they fell to a 13-9 deficit at the end of the first quarter. The Lions had a hard time rebounding the ball which limited their opportunities on offense. They were outscored in the second and went into halftime down 30-18. The team worked hard for a comeback but could not create any momentum as the deficit continued to grow. The Lions were defeated by Transylvania with a final score of 65-43.
How it Happened:
In the first quarter the Lions looked to have a tough match up against the Pioneers. They were able to keep the score close, ending the first quarter only down 13-9. The team continued to struggle in the second quarter as they were outscored 17-9. The Pioneers lead 30-18 going into halftime. In the second half, the Mount tried to decrease the deficit. The team failed to stop the Pioneers offense and the deficit continued to increase. The Lions entered the final quarter down 53-28. The Mount was able to play a solid fourth quarter but couldn't top the Pioneers as the Lions were defeated with a final score of 65-43.
Maddie Haberthy (Cincinnati, OH/ Mother of Mercy) lead the team in scoring with 15 points. She was also able to record 2 assists and 4 rebounds.
The Lions (8-6, 4-3) will travel to Defiance College on Saturday, 1/13, to take on the Yellow Jackets (4-10, 2-5) in another HCAC contest. Tipoff is set for 1:00 PM.
