HCAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

HCAC Women's Basketball Preseason Poll

Mount St. Joseph women's basketball team has been selected to finish 10th in HCAC preseason polls.  The preseason polls were released on 10/23 by the Heartland Colligate Athletic Conference.  The Lions received 14 total votes in the polls to put them behind Earlham and Anderson.

Last year, Transylvania was defeated by Rose-Hulman in the HCAC Championship with a final of 50-40.  Transylvania has been picked to take the title this year with 94 votes followed by Rose-Hulman with 90.

The Lions 2016-17 season was a bit of a struggle. Dealing with injuries and a small roster size made it tough for the Lions as they finished with an overall record of 2-23, and conference record of 1-17.  The Mount is excited to use this season to rebuild their team.  Mount St. Joseph has brought on Assistant Coach Jessica Fields to help Head Coach Dan Benjamin in restoring the program's success.

These coaches have done an outstanding job in the offseason to bring in a large freshman class.  The team appears very young with a total of 12 freshman on the roster.  They will be led by returning star Lainee Studer (Pleasant Plain, OH/ Little Miami) who played incredible basketball last season. She finished the season averaging 13.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game.  The team is excited to start the season and see the young talent create a prideful culture for Mount Women's Basketball. Mount St. Joseph will kick their season off with the annual Lauren Hill Tip Off Classic at the Cintas Center on Saturday, 11/11, against Hiram College at 6:30 PM.
